I’m on Cast-On

August 30th, 2006

If you are a regular listener of Cast-On you have probably already heard my voice and didn’t even know it. I sent in an audio comment to Brenda, but since I was away I didn’t get a chance to listen to the most recent episode until today. It’s only about a minute long, but I was pretty excited when I heard it. If you haven’t listened to Cast-On yet, give it a try. I’ve really enjoyed listening to the episodes as I knit and spin.

An Inconvenient Truth

August 29th, 2006

If you haven’t already seen An Inconvenient Truth, look up where it’s showing in your town and go.  You owe it to yourself to see this movie. If you have any questions about why this summer has been hotter than most, the answers are clear.

If for some reason you cannot make it, whether it be lack of funds, or time.  At least head over to the website and check it out.  One of the things that I really liked about the movie, was how it left you with a feeling of some hope.  If we act now, we can do very small things to prevent future ice melting, and lessen the chance for horrific storms and hurricanes.  If you are interested in taking action agains global warming, go here.

Since I feel this is really important, I will continue to post tips to help, and places to go for more information.

Back from San Diego

August 28th, 2006

I’m back from San Diego, but since being away for two weeks doesn’t make responsibilities go away, but instead pile up I am trying to catch up. I know I owe a few e-mails, I have FOs and cool things to share, but this will have to wait till later. I promise very soon!

San Diego Stitch n’ Bitch

August 22nd, 2006

I went to a San Diego Stitch n’ Bitch listed on the Chicago SnB website.  If you are looking for a place to meet other knitters in your area, this is definitely the first place to look.  The San Diego Stitch n’ Bitch was at a little coffee shop that was a little dark for my taste, but nice.  The women there were all levels and very friendly.  They were mostly young mothers, so of course most of the converstation turned to young children.  Since I’m not there yet, it was interesting, but I didn’t have much to contribute.  However, they made up for it by making sure I felt welcome and asking me questions about why I was visiting, what I was doing in Eugene, etc.  If you are in the San Diego area, it is definitely worth checking out.

Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival

August 21st, 2006

Another fiber festival in Oregon. I’m not sure I’m going to make it to this one. It’s awfully close to when classes start. It may be worth checking out though. Has anyone been to this one? What does it have? Is anyone going? Let me know.

La Jolla Kayak

August 20th, 2006

This must be a trend.  Whenever Anthony and I travel somewhere, especially since we’ve been on the ocean a bunch, we go kayaking.  This time we decided to try out La Jolla Kayak and kayak around the caves.  We decided to skip the tour and just go out on our own.  The caves were beautiful, but we didn’t kayak into any of them.  The caves are a little stinky, with all the seagulls.  The really neat part was all the wildlife.  On a sunny morning you can look into the water and see the leapord sharks and guitarfish.  If you are really looking you can see several different types of fish too.  The most exciting part for us was happening upon a sea turtle as we were coming back.  The turtle was enjoying the warm water and would stick it’s head up occasionally to breath.  It was a real treat to see.  Kayaking is definietly something we would like to explore more of.

That’s so Snakes on a Plane!

August 18th, 2006

I just found out that this movie is coming out today!  I thought it had come out ages ago.  I’m sure there will be millions of people just going to see if it is any good.  I’m also sure that the enormous hype around it won’t hurt their ticket sales.  I just can’t beleive that the movie hasn’t been in the theaters yet.

Blogiversary

August 17th, 2006

As Abe/Happy pointed out, it was my blogiversary.  If you haven’t read my first posts they are nothing about knitting.  It was before I became a knit-o-holic.  However, it was when I started sharing stuff on the web.  Happy blogiversary to me! (a little late….)

Stash Enhancement

August 13th, 2006

I’ve been going yarn crazy the last few days.  I placed an order at Over the Rainbow Yarns.  It was all Lime and Violet’s fault.  They are the worst enablers out there.  They section of their podcast is dedicated to yarn porn and they always have delicious sites to look at.  I got two skeins of Twinkle Toes yarn in colors Green Chile (how could I resist) and Redwood.  I also made a huge Knitpicks order.  I got enough yarn for the Coral Crossing sweater in the Winter ‘06 Interweave and some solid sock yarn for two pairs of socks.  I’m going to try knitting some argyles.  I’m so excited about getting my yarn packages!  I figured I was allowed to because I’ve finished several projects recently.  More on that later.

Travel

August 11th, 2006

Boarding a plane is always a little difficult for me.  Since my prosthetic leg makes the archy thing beep no matter what I always have to be patted and wanded down.  Recently they have even done explosive testing on my leg.

In preparation for my trip to San Diego, Anthony found this article on new things they are not allowing on planes.   Water and liquids are off limits now.  While this isn’t a huge deal for my short flight, if I was doing any international travel, it may be more of an issue.  I’m not really upset about this, it’s just a drag.  At least I can take my knitting though.
