Quick Update

July 31st, 2006

I have tons of pictures to show you, but I didn’t get around to it today.  Anthony and I went to the coast for the weekend, I’ve got a few finished projects, and a few new ones, and I must share the wonderful present that Kim gave me.  However, it must wait until the morning when I have light to take pictures.

Just a Reminder

July 26th, 2006

Have you noticed that my blog looks different?  That’s because I moved servers, updated wordpress, and got a new domain name.  Yup.  You might not realize this because even if you are clicking an old bookmark you will get redirected to my new site.  However, those old addresses won’t work forever, so please update you bookmarks.  That is if you want to keep hanging around with the cool knittas.  :)

Meanwhile, if you would like something to laugh about, go here and check out Knitta Please.  If you listen to Cast-On you have already heard this.  I had always wanted to mix old school rap and fiber arts.

Sweet Creek Falls

July 25th, 2006

It’s been hot here. Really hot here in Oregon, and today it decided to finally cool down a little. The breeze is back and the sticky humidity is less and the temperature has dropped to tolerable. This weekend Anthony and I decided to go for a hike to get away from the heat.

The coast is always much cooler here so we headed towards Florence, OR to hike the Sweet Creek trail. It was so beautiful! Hiking here has been so different than any other place I’ve lived. Everything is so green, and the moss is amazing. Plus you can get to some sort of body of water very easily. Here are a bunch of pictures from the hike. (Click on the photo for a larger view)

It was really beautiful. Unfortunatly as we got back to the car we discovered that my car had been broken into. They had stolen my purse out of the trunk, so the last few days have been a little crazy. I’ve almost gotten everything settled, but yesterday was a day full of long and tedious errands. Even with the crappy car breakage, I highly recommend this hike. Just don’t leave any valuables in the car.

Around the World Socks

July 23rd, 2006

I finished another pair of socks! This one is my own pattern. My second sock pattern. I call these the “Around the World Socks” Partially because of the colors and partially because of the twist in the pattern repeat. I will put the pattern for these up on my blog in the next few days so you can make them too. I’m really happy with how they turned out, even though the colors don’t match exactly. I even liked how the pooling ended up with the greys and blues together and the green and tan grouped together.

Around the World Socks

I did these instead of the Cascading Leaves socks. Cascading Leaves didn’t really work with this yarn, so I made up my own. Here are all the stats.

  • Yarn; 2 skeins of Knitpicks, Memories, Cape Cod
  • Needles; 2 circular auddi turbos US size 1
  • Pattern; Around the World Socks by me
  • Started; 7/11/06-7/22/06

DeStash

July 19th, 2006

I found this on Marla’s blog Casting On. I don’t really have a stash that anyone else would want to buy, so I won’t be selling, but this site is awesome! I actually may accumulate some stash here if I find the right buy. Anyone can sign up as a member of this site and you can sell your stash there. Other people come along and buy it for the price you post plus shipping. Once it’s sold, the post is deleated. Pretty cool huh?

Bloglines

July 18th, 2006

Looking for a good way to organize all the blogs you read?  Not to mention get notified when they are updated?  I’ve just started using bloglines, which is a very easy way to see all the blogs you read at once.   It shows the most recent post, and all you have to do is know the web address of the blogs you love.  Plus it will give you recommendations if you like.  Super easy, even for the non-web-savy types.

Starting a Saturday Market Bag

July 18th, 2006

For those of you thinking about starting a Saturday Market Bag, look no furthur. I just recieved some excellent photos of the beginning (which is the hardest part).  The first few rows are the toughest, and awkward parts of this pattern, but once you get going there will be no problem. Go on over there and say hi to Louise and thanks for a great explanation.
Just a small reminder that if you would like to e-mail me a photo and a link to your blog post of you finished market bag, I would be happy to put it in the gallery.  I just love all the variations of bags I’m getting.

Dyed Goodies

July 17th, 2006

I don’t have any finished knitting projects, but last wed I worked hard at dyeing.  I spent most of the day playing with color and I was really happy with how things turned out.

First, I have my laceweight.  I got this from Knitpicks a while back and I finally found a colorway I would really like to use.  I’m calling this Forest Path.  Not very original, but it was what I was thinking of when I put the colors together.  The olive green was actually made with sunny yellow and black.  That was a tip from Janis at Dyelots.
Lace Weight Forest Path

This is some sock yarn in the same colorway.  I got this yarn at the Black Sheep Gathering.  I was a little worried because it was so thin, but after I dyed it the yarn gained some loft.  I should have enough yarn for two more pairs of socks.
Sock Yarn in Forest Path

This is charcoal grey dk weight yarn that I bought for a cropped cardigan that I’m going to design.  I think I’m going to offer the pattern up here.  I know the colors for this are not very interesting, but it has to be something that’ll match almost everything in my wardrobe.  The two on the left are plain black, the others have small spots of plum, purple and blue on them.  After I dyed it, I realized that this was how the fleece I just spun was supposed to turn out.

I hope you are finding my blog easy to navigate now I moved.  There will be changes in the next few weeks.  Sorry about the header not matching at all right now.  I really do have a decent sense of color, I swear.  Thanks for moving over with me!

Kitchen - Before and After

July 15th, 2006

We just finished painting our kitchen! I really like it. Of course I have to show you the horrible before picture;

This picture isn’t the greatest before picture, but it will have to do. You don’t get to see the brick, which is still there, but it does show the green and white wallpaper. So first the wallpaper had to die, and there were two layers. Then we painted it blue, and today we ragged a light grey over it. Here are the results.

This last picture shows Anthony pondering the kitchen. He’s not sure he likes the grey over the blue yet. I really like it. Now we can finally finish setting up our kitchen, including hanging things on the walls.

One Skein Gifts - June and July

July 14th, 2006

My one skein package came from my secret pal yesterday! My pal went ahead and sent both June and July’s gifts at once. I taught 9 students yesterday, which is a lot, plus traveled to and back from Newberg. When I got home at 10:30 last night this was waiting for me and it made my exaustion the happy giddy kind.

First I got some grey hand spun yarn. It is tweedy looking due to several shades of black/grey and white being spun together. I really like it, but I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet. Maybe some gloves?

This green is incredibly soft. I love it so much! There is a little over 500 yards in both balls! I don’t know what it will be yet, but I can tell it’s going to be a delight to knit with.

Then there were more goodies! The needles are handmade. I’m just waiting for the rest of my handspun to dry and I’m going to cast on a scarf with these. They are a little smaller than US 8 and they are very smooth. I think the tips will be really easy to knit with also. Two candles which made the box smell wonderful.

Here’s a close up of the stitch markers. These are my first special stitch markers. I have ugly plastic rings and I usually use little bits of yarn. Now my knitting can look stylin’ as I go.

Thank you so much AJ! I love my box.
