Worm Bin

December 29th, 2005

As I was reading Knit Lit I learned about Red Worm Composting. I was about to start saving my composte to take over to a friends compost pile when I learned that I could do it inside my own apartment. I was directed to a worm website called City Worm. Who knew that knitting and worms were so related?

There is actually a newsletter through Eugene called The Worm Digest and it covers many in depth aspects of Vermiculture. This is probably geared more towards the passionate worm owner.

I had a budget to stick with, so I got a Sterilite box that was dark blue with handles and a weird lid with a hole on the top. I covered the hole and handles with muslin, which I have to occasionally replace. I had to get a 1/2 lb. of worms, but only really need 1/4 of a lb so I ended up giving half of them away. The worms quickly made up for the loss by reproducing faster than I thought possible. I give them lot of things to eat and top their box with shreaded newspaper. Here is a picture of that wormy goodness.

Language of Cats

December 28th, 2005

A long, long time ago I took a Spanish class. It seemed appropriate while I was living in New Mexico. One of the things I remember vividly (and probably one of the only things) is that Cats have a different sound in Spanish. Cats don’t say meow but instead they say grau…or something like that. I was wondering if any of the people reading this could let me know what sound cats make in their language. Like what do cats say in German, or in Arabic? Thanks!

Yarn Stash

December 27th, 2005

Here it is. This is what I’ve been working on all term, and I haven’t gotten very far. I haven’t added to it either, I swear.

Yarn Stash

To top it off, this isn’t all of it. I have a large basket overflowing in my livingroom.

Yarn Basket

I’m not sure how I’m going to get through all of it. I may never be allowed to buy yarn again. Why do I have so much yarn you ask? Several reasons really. I have been fundraising for Relay for Life by crocheting hats and scarves. I also have enough yarn for two whole afgans. Unfortunatly afgans have not been my peak interest lately. I am going to continue trying to figure out ways that I can manage to enjoy and get rid of the yarn I have (all of it is pretty poor quality as well) and not inhibit my future projects. Any ideas?

Merry Christmas

December 25th, 2005

Merry Christmas everyone! I will be enjoying a day full of family as well as lazy naps and reading. However you celebrate, have a great day!

Happy Birthday Anthony & Mom

December 24th, 2005

Today is my Mom’s Birthday as well as my dear Anthony’s. I’m so glad that we were able to go to Colorado to celebrate. Happy Birthday!

Skully Socks

December 23rd, 2005

I made Skully Socks for my dad. He is a huge Raiders fan and after seeing the Skully Sweater in Stitch n’ Bitch, I couldn’t resist converting it to a pair of socks. Socks are my favorite thing to knit right now, and I have produced 3 pairs! One other that I will reveal soon. Here’s the picture.

Let me know if you want the graph for the skulls. They were very easy and a ton of fun.

One-legged Girl

December 22nd, 2005

I get a ton of people searching for “One Legged Girl” and landing at my site. I was just wondering what people are searching for. I’ve found that there are a few songs called with lyrics about a “One Legged Girl”, but somehow I doubt that’s what is being searched for. If you feel like enlightening me on this mystery please do.

Knitting Help

December 21st, 2005

I’ve added a link to my Links list. It’s called Knitting Help and it seems like a very helpful site. Knitting Help has short videos on it to help a learning knitter. The nice thing is that they have both right handed and left handed instructions. There are many pictures of things including different types of increases and decreases, and tons of links to free patterns. I am still browsing all the great patterns. I’ll let you know if I find any to try.

The Next Two Weeks

December 20th, 2005

I am off to Colorado Springs, Colorado. I always assume that people would know Colorado Springs is in Colorado, but somehow they never seem sure.

Anthony and I are flying tomorrow and heading to my parents house. First we get into Denver and we’ll eat dinner there, then travel down to Springs (45 mins away with good traffic) and finish getting ready for Christmas.

I’m almost done with all of my Christmas shopping. I have a few more things to do, but nothing huge. The next two weeks will all be pre-written posts because I probably won’t get on the internet to much. Hope you have a great holiday season!
